Programme Lead – Hihiko

Iwi affiliations: Tūhoe, Ngāti Porou, Ngāriki Kaiputahi

Te Whetumarama is a proud descendant of Ngaariki Kaiputahi and Tūhoe. 

As a raukura from Kohanga Reo and Kura Kaupapa, Te Whetumarama was raised from the teachings of his tupuna and the mātauranga within his Māori world. He is passionate about his cultural identity and draws on these as he navigates the world and contributes to the wellbeing of our people. 

Currently studying a Bachelors of Bicultural Social Work with Te Wānanga o Aotearoa, Te Whetumarama also has a background in Rugby League, Mau Rākau, Waka Ama, and Basketball. Utilising these experiences, he aims to incorporate the important values and principles of Hauora Māori and hakinakina Māori in all facets of his life.  

Te Whetumarama is passionate about being part of a team that supports rangatahi Māori within the realms of digital pathways, creativity, and as Programme Lead of Hihiko he is looking forward to unlocking indigenous pathways in STEAM locally and beyond.
